Introduction
The Judicial Service Commission recently interviewed ten candidates for the position of Chief Justice. The commission broadcast the interviews live on national television, and panellists asked each candidate to state his or her views on the "Muruatetu case."
Justice William Ouko was one of the applicants, and when it was his turn to comment on the case, he started with a light-hearted comment.
"The name Muruatetu," he said, "has been mentioned very many times at these interviews. Maybe it's time someone told Kenyans who Muruatetu is."
This story is my 5-part non-lawyer's account of the chronology of events that gave rise to the Muruatetu Case.
Reading all the five parts will take roughly 15 minutes.
